Replacement of RN41 & RN42 bluetooth module

Some Bluetooth projects are using RN41 or RN42. What’s the difference between these two modules?

In fact, the primary difference between the RN42 and RN41 is that the RN42 is a Class 2 device, meaning its range is about 50 to 60 feet and correspondingly the power consumption is reduced. Is there any module that is better than these modules? Of course!

Feasycom has a module named FSC-BT909 which has all the good sides of RN41/RN42, and it has something more that RN41/RN42 don’t have. From the chart below, you would see the differences.

As you can see, BT909 not only support classic Bluetooth profiles, but also support Bluetooth Low Energy. BT909 adopts Qualcomm CSR8811 powerful chipset, it can be applied on many long-distance wireless applications. It is class 1 long range, which can totally replacement RN41.

If you prefer low cost dual mode module to instead of RN42, we recommend FSC-BT826E. BT 4.2 Dual Mode, SPP+BLE. This module can totally replacement RN42.

And since the Bluetooth SIG has deprecated Bluetooth 2.1 specification as of January 28, 2019. New designs with the RN41/RN42 will be unaffected. Bluetooth SIG will not qualify any new designs with RN41/RN42.
